Question

Is the following du’a authentic? What is the source?

“O Allah, keep us steadfast upon Iman, cause us to die upon Iman and resurrect us on the Day of Qiyamah among the pious with Iman.”

Answer

I have not come across this du’a with the above wording in any primary Hadith source. It should therefore not be quoted as a du’a of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam).

However, the meaning of the du’a is correct, and there is no harm in reciting it as a general du’a, especially since the individual meanings are established in the Quran and Hadith.

1) Allah Ta’ala mentions:

“Our Rabb, do not let our hearts deviate after You have guided us.”

(Surah Al ‘Imran, Verse: 8)

2) Sayyiduna Anas ibn Malik (radiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) would frequently recite the following supplication:

Transliteration: Ya Muqallibal qulub, thabbit qalbi ‘ala dinik

Translation: O Turner of hearts, keep my heart steadfast upon Your Din.
