A fabrication about Roses/Rose-Water

Question

I have heard that diabetes can be cured by drinking rose water based on the fact that the rose plant was developed as a result of the sweat of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wasallam).

How authentic is that statement?

Answer

The claim of the rose plant being created from the perspiration of our Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wasallam) has been declared/acknowledged as a fabrication by several Hadith Masters, like: Hafiz Ibn ‘Asakir- cited others, Ibnul Jawzi, ‘Allamah Nawawi, Hafiz Ibn Hajar Al-‘Asqalani, ‘Allamah Sakhawi, ‘Allamah Suyuti, Ibn ‘Arraq and Mulla ‘Ali Qari as well as others (rahimahumullah).

References for all of the above: Tadribur Rawi, vol. 2 pg. 556, Mawdu’at ibnul Jawzi, vol. 3 pg. 61-63, Al-Maqasidul Hasanah, Hadith: 261, Al-La-alil Masnu’ah, vol. 2 pg. 233-234, Tanzihush Shari’ah, vol. 2 pg. 270, 279, Kashful Khafa, Hadith: 797 and Al-Asrarul Marfu’ah, Hadith: 102 and 571.

Important note: The above being declared a fabrication is aside from the possibility of cure through rose water, albeit in the light of experience.

Therefore, there is no harm in using it as a treatment when, and as recommended by experts, without attributing it to the fabrication discussed above.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best,
