Question

Is the following Hadith authentic?

Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:

“Whomsoever says the following: ‘Alhamdu lillahil ladhi tawada’a kullu shay in  li’azamatih wal hamdu lillahil ladhi dhalla kullu shay in li ‘izzatih wal hamdulillahil ladhi khada’a kullu shay in li mulkih wal hamdulillahil ladhis taslama kullu shay in li qudratih’,

Allah will record for him one thousand good deeds, Allah will elevate one thousand stages and Allah will appoint seventy thousand angels to seek forgiveness on his behalf till the day of Qiyamah.”

Answer

Translation

All Praise is due to Allah, before Whose Grandeur every thing is humbled and All Praise is due to Allah, before Whose Greatness every thing is subdued and All Praise is due to Allah, before Whose Dominion every thing is abased and All Praise is due to Allah, before Whose Strength every thing surrenders.

Authenticity

Imam Tabarani (rahimahullah) has recorded this narration in Al Mu’jamul Kabir.

(Al Mu’jamul Kabir, Hadith: 13562)

Imam Bayhaqi (rahimahullah) has stated that this Hadith is weak. However he then says that this narration has two (mawquf) supports. Hafiz Mundhiri (rahimahullah) has indicated towards its weakness and Hafiz Haythami (rahimahullah) has also declared the Hadith as weak.

(Al Asma Was Sifat of Bayhaqi, pg. 128, Targhib, vol. 2, pg. 442 and Majma’uz Zawaid, vol. 10, pg. 96)

It is therefore suitable for practice.
