Question
What is the authenticity of the narration below? Is it suitable to quote?
Answer
This narration is recorded in Musnadul Firdaws with slight variation in the wording.
(Musnadul Firdaws, Hadith: 8688, ‘ilmiyyah edition. Also see: Kashful Khafa, Hadith: 3270)
There are several narrators in this chain whom I could not locate. The narration should not be quoted until the credibility of these narrators can be ascertained.
The following narration may be quoted instead:
Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Abbas (radiyallahu ‘anhuma) said: “A time will surely come upon people, wherein the only concern of a person will be his belly and his religion will be his desires.”
(Kitabuz Zuhd of Imam ‘Abdullah ibnul Mubarak: 613)
