Is this narration authentic?
أيما امرأة صامت بغير إذن زوجها فأرادها على شيء فامتنعت عليه كتب الله عليها ثلاثا من الكبائر
Any woman who fasts [optional fasts] without her husband’s consent, and he wishes to fulfil his desires with her but she refuses [as she is keeping optional an fast], Allah Ta’ala will record three major sins for her.
Imam Tabarani (rahimahullah) has recorded this Hadith on the authority of Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (rahimahullah).
(Al Mu’jamul Awsat, Hadith: 23)
However, ‘Allamah Mundhiri (rahimahullah) has declared the text unreliable (fihi nakarah).
(Targhib, vol. 2 pg. 132)
The narration in question is therefore not suitable to quote.
There are authentic Hadiths which state that a woman should seek her husband’s permission before observing optional fasts, without the mention of three major sins being recorded for her. These should be quoted instead.
(Refer: Targhib, vol. 2 pg. 131/132)
And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
