Is this Hadith authentic?

عن ابى الدرداء رضى الله تعالى عنه انه مر مع النبى صلى الله عليه وسلم الى بيت عامر الانصارى، وكان يعلّم وقائع ولادته صلى الله عليه وسلم لأ بنائه وعشيرته، ويقول: هذا اليوم هذا اليوم. فقال عليه الصلوة والسلام: ان الله فتح لك أبواب الرحمة والملائكة يستغفرون لك من فعل فعلك نجا نجاتك.

Answer

I have not come across this narration in any primary Hadith source nor have I come across the chain of narrators to verify the authenticity. I have also not come across a grading on this narration from the Muhaddithun of the past.

‘Allamah Suyuti (rahimahullah) has authored a treatise on the ruling of mawlid which is also printed with his Al Hawi (vol. 1, pg. 221-231 Darul Fikr). I have not come across this narration here as well nor in any other writings of ‘Allamah Suyuti.

The narration is not suitable to quote until it can be found in a primary source. The chain will then need to be inspected.

Kindly consult a Mufti/Darul Ifta for a Fiqh ruling on the issue of celebrating mawlid.
