I am looking for the primary source/reference for the following statement of Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Abbas (radiyallahu ‘anhuma):

وعن ابن عباس قال: البيت المقدس بنته الأنبياء وسكنته الأنبياء، ما فيه موضع شبر إلا وقد صلّى فيه نبي أو أقام فيه ملك

 

Answer

I have not come across this statement of Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Abbas (radiyallahu ‘anhuma) in any of the primary Hadith sources. This narration is cited in non-primary sources (without a chain of narrators) like books that discuss places and cities.

Ibn ‘Abbas (radiyallahu ‘anhuma) said: “The Ambiya built and inhabited Baytul Maqdis. There is no handspan within it where a Nabi has not offered Salah or an angel has not stood.”

(Kitabul Buldan of Ibnul Faqih, pg. 147 and Mu’jamul Buldan, vol. 5, pg. 167)

A similar narration is recorded in Fadailu Baytil Maqdis of Ibnul Murji Al Maqdisi (demise: 492 A.H.) as the statement of the Tabi’i; ‘Ata al Khurasani (rahimahullah).

‘Ata al Khurasani (rahimahullah) said: “Baytul Maqdis was built by the Ambiya and inhabited by the Ambiya. By Allah, there is not a handspan within it except that a Nabi has prostrated there.”
