Question
What is the status of this narration:
Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: “Whoever performs 4 raka’hs of Salatud Duha is as though he has read this Salah on Laylatul Qadr.”
[Shu’abul Iman: 8553]
Answer
Imam Bayhaqi (rahimahullah) has recorded this narration in Shu’abul Iman on the authority of Sayyiduna Bara ibn ‘Azib (radiyallahu ‘anhuma). The narrators are acceptable and the Hadith is suitable to quote.
(Shu’abul Iman, Hadith: 8553)
The wording of the Hadith is as follows:
من صلى أربعا قبل الهاجرة فكأنما صلاهن في ليلة القدر
Translation: Whoever offers four rak’ahs before ‘hajirah‘ it is as though he has offered them on Laylatul Qadr
Mulla ‘Ali Al Qari (rahimahullah) states that ‘قبل الهاجرة’ refers to Salah before midday when it is hot (قبل نصف النهار وهو وقت اشتداد الحر). Based on this explanation, the Hadith in question could apply to Salatud Duha.
(Mirqatul Mafatih, Hadith: 4694)
Al Muhaddith ‘Abdul Haqq Ad Dehlawi states that this refers to the four Sunnah of Zuhr (والظاهر أن المراد بها صلاة الظهر فهو ترغيب على محافظة راتبة الظهر أربعا…)
(Lama’atut Tanqih, Hadith: 4694)
And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
