Question
Kindly comment on the authenticity of the following narration:
‘Urwah ibn Zubayr (rahimahullah) came to Sayyidah ‘Aishah (radiyallahu ‘anha) and told her that so and so doesn’t consider you his mother. ‘Aishah (radiyallahu ‘anha) replied that he was correct for I’m only the mother of believers, not of the disbelievers.

Imam Abu Bakr Al Ajurri (rahimahullah) [Demise: 360 A.H.] has recorded this narration:
‘Urwah (rahimahullah) reported from ‘Aishah (radiyallahu ‘anha) that she was once mentioned in the presence of a man who then swore her. He was asked, “Is she not your mother?” He replied, “She is not my mother.” When this was relayed to her, she said, “He has spoken the truth. I am the mother of the believers, but as for the disbelievers, I am not their mother.”

The narrators are reliable.
A corroborating narration is also recorded in Sharhu Usuli I’tiqadi Ahlis Sunnah, vol. 8, pg. 1436, number: 2768.

Hafiz Ibn Hajar (rahimahullah) states that the term Ummul Muminin is the common one. However it is also correct to use: Ummul Muminat (i.e., using the feminine gender for the word: believers)
