‘Aaishah (radiyallahu ‘anha) rebukes a woman wearing anklets with bells


What is the authenticity of this narration?

دخلت جارية على عائشة وفي رجلها جلاجل في الخلخال فقالت عائشة: أخرجوا عني مفرقة الملائكة



This narration is recorded in Musannaf ‘Abdur Razzaq.

(Musannaf ‘Abdur Razzaq, Hadith: 19699)


Imam Abu Dawud (rahimahullah) has recorded the following corroborating narration:

“A young girl once entered upon Sayyidah ‘Aaishah (radiyallahu ‘anha) who was wearing anklets that were tingling [due to having bells].’ Sayyidah ‘Aaishah (radiyallahu ‘anha) said, ‘Do not allow her in unless the bells are removed.’ She further said, I heard Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) say, ‘The angels do not enter a house in which there is a bell.'”

(Sunan Abi Dawud, Hadith: 4228)


The narration in question is corroborated and suitable to quote.



A slave girl entered upon Sayyidah ‘Aaishah (radiyallahu ‘anha) wearing anklets that had bells in them. Sayyidah ‘Aaishah (radiyallahu ‘anha) said, ‘Remove from me the thing that chases away the angels!'”
