Is this narration authentic?
Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah Ibn Mas’ud (radiyallahu ‘anhu) said:
“Fulfil whatever has been imposed on you [by the Shari’ah], then you will become the greatest worshipper among people. Abstain from the prohibitions [haram acts], then you will become the most pious of people and be content with whatever Allah has apportioned for you, then you will be the wealthiest of people.”

This statement of Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn Mas’ud (radiyallahu ‘anhu) is recorded in the following sources:
- Kitabuz Zuhd of Imam Hannad, number: 1032, with a sound chain.
- Kitabuz Zuhd of Imam Abu Dawud, pg. 197, with slight difference in the sequence
- Shu’abul Iman: 197 and 8119.

(١٠٣٢) – حدثنا قبيصة، عن سفيان، عن العلاء، عن أبي وائل، عن عبد الله قال: «أد ما افترض الله عليك تكن من أعبد الناس، واجتنب ما حرم الله عليك تكن من أورع الناس، وارض بما قسم الله لك تكن من أغنى الناس».
الزهد لأبي داود: (ص: ١٩٧)
حدثنا أبو داود قال: نا محمد بن كثير، قال: أنا سفيان، عن العلاء يعني ابن خالد، عن أبي وائل، قال: قال عبد الله: «ارض بما قسم الله لك تكن أغنى الناس، وأد ما افترض الله عليك تكن أعبد الناس، واجتنب ما حرم الله عليك تكن من أورع الناس».
كشف الخفاء: (١/ ٨٤ رقم: ١٧١)
(أد ما افترض الله عليك تكن من أعبَدِ الناس واجتنب ما حرم الله عليك تكن من أورع الناس وارض بما قسم الله لك تكن من أغنى الناس) رواه ابن عدي عن ابن مسعود، قال الدارقطني رَفعُه وَهْمٌ، والصواب وقفُه.
