Question

Is the following Hadith authentic?

Ibn ‘Abbas (radiyallahu ‘anhuma) reported that Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:

  1. On the first day of Dhul Hijjah, Allah forgave Adam (‘alayhis salam). Whoever fasts on this day, Allah will forgive all his sins.

  2. On the second day, Allah answered the du’a of Yusuf (‘alayhis salam). Whoever fasts on this day, it is as though he worshipped Allah for a whole year without disobeying Him even for a moment.

  3. On the third day, Allah accepted the du‘a of Zakariyya (‘alayhis salam). Whoever fasts on this day, Allah will accept his du‘a.

  4. On the fourth day, ‘Isa (‘alayhis salam) was born. Whoever fasts on this day, Allah will remove hardship and poverty from him and he will be raised on the Day of Qiyamah with the honourable scribes [angels].

  5. On the fifth day, Musa (‘alayhis salam) was born. Whoever fasts on this day will be protected from hypocrisy and the punishment of the grave.

  6. On the sixth day, Allah granted goodness to Nabi Muhammad (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam). Whoever fasts on this day, Allah will look at him with mercy and never punish him.

  7. On the seventh day, the gates of Jahannam are closed. Whoever fasts on this day, Allah will close thirty doors of hardship and open thirty doors of ease.

  8. The eight day is called Yawmut Tarwiyah, whoever fasts on this day will receive a reward known only to Allah.

  9. On the ninth day (the Day of ‘Arafah), whoever fasts will have his sins forgiven for the previous year and the coming year.

  10. On the tenth day (the Day of ‘Eidul Adha), the sacrifice is made. With the first drop of blood from the sacrificial animal, Allah forgives the person’s sins as well as the sins of his children. And whoever feeds a believer or gives charity on this day, Allah will raise him on the Day of Judgement in a state of peace, and his scale will be heavier than Mount Uhud.

Answer

I have not come across this narration in any Hadith source. The Hadith should not be quoted until it can be sourced and then verified.

Note:

1) The virtue mentioned for fasting on the ninth of Dhul Hijjah is recorded in Sahih Muslim. This may be quoted. See here

2) Although the Hadith in question should not be quoted, fasting during the first nine days of Dhul Hijjah is certainly rewarding and encouraged. See here

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
