Question

Is the following narration reliable?

Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:

“The best of you is the best to his wife/family, and I am the best among you to my wives”

 

Answer

Imams Tirmidhi and Ibn Majah (rahimahumallah) have recorded this Hadith on the authority of Sayyidah ‘Aishah and Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Abbas (radiyallahu ‘anhum).

Imam Tirmidhi (rahimahullah) has declared the Hadith authentic (hasanun sahih).

(٣٨٩٥) – حدثنا محمد بن يحيى قال: حدثنا محمد بن يوسف قال: حدثنا سفيان، عن هشام بن عروة، عن أبيه، عن عائشة، قالت: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: «خيركم خيركم لأهله وأنا خيركم لأهلي، وإذا مات صاحبكم فدعوه» هذا حديث حسن صحيح وروي هذا عن هشام بن عروة، عن أبيه، عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم مرسلا.

سنن ابن ماجه:
(١٩٧٧) – حدثنا أبو بشر بكر بن خلف ومحمد بن يحيى، قالا: حدثنا أبو عاصم، عن جعفر بن يحيى بن ثوبان، عن عمه عمارة بن ثوبان، عن عطاء، عن ابن عباس، عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم، قال: «خيركم خيركم لأهله، وأنا خيركم لأهلي».
