Imam Awza’i (rahimahullah) said:
“It has reached me that good deeds during the [first] 10 days [of Dhul Hijjah] are equivalent to a military expedition in the cause of Allah: its days are spent fasting, and its nights are spent guarding…”

Answer

Imam Bayhaqi (rahimahullah) has recorded this narration:

Imam Awza’i (rahimahullah) [Demise: 157 A.H.] said: “It has reached me that a deed performed on any day of the [first] ten days [of Dhul Hijjah] is equal in reward to a military expedition in the path of Allah, in which the days are spent fasting and the nights standing guard, except if a person attains martyrdom.” [i.e. In this case, his reward will be greater]

Imam Awza’i (rahimahullah) then quotes his source and says, “This Hadith was narrated to me by a man from the Quraysh, from Banu Makhzum, from Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam).”

(Shu’abul Iman, Hadith: 3477. Also see: Targhib, vol. 2, pg. 200)

Imam Bukhari and Imam Tirmidhi (rahimahumallah) have recorded a similar virtue regarding these days. See here

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
