Could you kindly give a reference for this narration?
Once the ten days of Dhul-Hijjah began, Sa’id ibn Jubayr (rahimahullah) would exert himself in worship to Allah such that he would nearly overwhelm himself.
Answer
Imams Darimi and Bayhaqi (rahimahumallah) have recorded the narration on the virtue of the first ten days of Dhul Hijjah [Which is also recorded in Sahih Bukhari].
“There are no days when good deeds are better than during these days [the first ten days of Dhul Hijjah]”. The Sahabah (radiyallahu ‘anhum) asked, “Not even jihad?” Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said, “Not even Jihad, except if a man goes out, endangering himself and his wealth but does not return with anything/ is martyred”
In these versions after reporting the Hadith, the narrator states, ”
When the ten days [of Dhul Hijjah] would commence, Sa’id ibn Jubayr (rahimahullah) would exert tremendous effort to the point where he would almost overwhelm himself.”

(١٨١٥) – أخبرنا يزيد بن هارون، أنبأنا أصبغ، عن القاسم بن أبي أيوب، عن سعيد، عن ابن عباس، عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم قال: «ما من عمل أزكى عند الله عز وجل ولا أعظم أجرا من خير يعمله في عشر الأضحى». قيل: ولا الجهاد في سبيل الله قال: «ولا الجهاد في سبيل الله عز وجل إلا رجل خرج بنفسه وماله فلم يرجع من ذلك بشيء» قال: وكان سعيد بن جبير إذا دخل أيام العشر اجتهد اجتهادا شديدا حتى ما يكاد يقدر عليه.
