Question

Please verify the authenticity of the following Hadith:

عن فاطمة ابنة الحسين عن أبيها الحسين بن علي عن النبي – صلى الله عليه وسلم – قال: «ما من مسلم ولا مسلمة يصاب بمصيبة فيذكرها وإن طال عهدها، قال عباد: قدم عهدها، فيحدث لذلك استرجاعا، إلا جدد الله له عند ذلك، فأعطاه مثل أجرها يوم أصيب بها»

Answer

Imam Ahmad (rahimahullah) has recorded these words.

Sayyiduna Husayn ibn ‘Ali (radiyallahu ‘anhuma) reported that Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: “When a Muslim or Muslimah suffers a calamity and upon remembering it -even if it is after a long time- says, ‘Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un (Indeed, we belong to Allah, and indeed, to Him we shall return), Allah will renew [the reward] and grant him a reward equal to that which he received on the day the calamity first struck.”
