Question

I am searching for the reference of this Hadith:

جاء أعرابي، فقال النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم: «هل أخذتك أم ملدم؟» قال: وما أم ملدم؟ قال: «حر بين الجلد واللحم»، قال: لا، قال: «فهل صدعت؟» قال: وما الصداع؟ قال: «ريح تعترض في الرأس، تضرب العروق»، قال: لا، قال: فلما قام قال: «من سره أن ينظر إلى رجل من أهل النار» أي: فلينظره

Answer

Imam Bukhari (rahimahullah) has recorded this narration in Al Adabul Mufrad.

Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (radiyallahu ‘anhu) reported that “Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) once asked a Bedouin, “Have you ever been affected with Ummu Mildam?” The Bedouin inquired, “What is Ummu Mildam?” Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) replied, “Heat between the flesh and skin” [i.e., fever]. The Bedouin said “No.” Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) then asked, “Have you experienced a headache?” The Bedouin asked, “What is a headache?” Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said, “A type of wind in the head that causes the veins to beat.” The Bedouin said: “No.” Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: “Whoever would like to see a man from the people of Jahannam, then look at this man.”

(Al Adabul Mufrad, Hadith: 495)

Imam Ibn Hibban (rahimahullah) has also recorded this Hadith with slight variation in the wording. See this version here together with the explanation.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
