Another version of the narration regarding Sa’id’s ibn Musayyab fear of the fitnah of women

Question

Could you provide the reference for this narration?

عن سعيد بن المسيب أنه قال: قد بلغت ثمانين سنة وما شيء أخوف عندي من النساء. وقد كاد بصره يذهب

Answer

This version of the narration is recorded in Tabaqat ibn Sa’d and Hilyatul Awliya.

Sa’id ibnul Musayyab (rahimahullah) said: “I have reached 80 years of age and I do not fear anything upon myself more than I fear [the fitnah] of women.” He had almost lost his eyesight [i.e. When he said this, he could barely see, yet he was still afraid of the fitnah of women.]

(Tabaqat ibn Sa’d, vol. 5 pg. 103, Hilyatul Awliya, vol. 2 pg. 166)
