Authenticity of the Hadith regarding supremacy being solely based on taqwa

Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:

“You are not superior to a [white] or black-skinned person, unless you excel him in piety.” (Ahmad)

Is this narration reliable?

Imam Ahmad (rahimahullah) has recorded this Hadith on the authority of Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (radiyallahu ‘anhu).

(Musnad Ahmad, vol 5 pg. 158)

Allamah Mundhiri and ‘Allamah Haythami (rahimahumallah) have declared the narrators reliable, but state that there is an omission right before the Sahabi.

(Targhib, vol. 3 pg. 612, Majma’uz Zawaid, vol. 8 pg. 84)

However, the Hadith is well supported and could be declared authentic due to corroboration. See here and here.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
