Question

Kindly provide the reference and Arabic for this narration:

“Do not let the flaws you know about yourself prevent you from du’a, for Allah even has answered the prayers of his most evil creature, Iblis.”

Answer

Imam Bayhaqi (rahimahullah) has recorded this narration as the statement of Imam Sufyan ibn ‘Uyaynah (rahimahullah).

Imam Sufyan ibn ‘Uyaynah (rahimahullah) said: “Do not stop making du’a to Allah Ta’ala, and do not let what you know of your own shortcomings prevent you from it. Allah even answered Iblis, despite him being the worst of all creation.” Shaytan said, “Grant me respite until the Day they are resurrected”, and Allah Ta’ala replied, “Indeed, you are of those granted respite.” (Al-Hijr: 36-37)
