Question

Is this an authentic du’a?

To be recited when having difficulty obtaining sleep

Answer

This du’a is recorded by Imams Ibnus Sunni and Tabarani (rahimahumallah) with a weak chain.

Despite this, the du’a may be practiced upon.

(‘Amalul yawmi wal laylah, Hadith: 749 and Al Mu’jamul Kabir, Hadith: 4817. Also see Majma’uz zawaid, vol.10 pg.128 and Al-Futuhatur Rabbaniyyah, vol.3 pg.177)

This du’a has also been cited by Imam Jazary (rahimahullah) in Hisnul Hasin, pg.62 as well as ‘Allamah Nawawi (rahimahullah) in Adhkar, Hadith: 304.

Transliteration:

Sayyiduna Zayd (radiyallahu ‘anhu) says: ‘After reciting this, Allah Ta’ala cured my insomnia.’

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best,
