Question
What du’a can one recite when sighting the new moon?
Answer
Among the du’as to be recited are the following:
1)
Allahumma ahlilhu ‘alayna bil yumni wal imani was salamati wal islami Rabbi wa RabbukAllah
(Sunan Tirmidhi, Hadith: 3451 on the authority of Sayyiduna Talhah ibn ‘Ubaydillah radiyallahu ‘anhu. Imam Tirmidhi rahimahullah has classified this as sound –hasanun gharib-)
2)
Allahu Akbar! Allahumma ahillahu ‘alayna bil amni wal iman, was salamati wal islam, wat tawfiqi lima yuhibbu Rabbuna wa yarda. Rabbuna wa RabbukAllah
(Sunan Darimi, Hadith: 1687 on the authority of Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Umar radiyallahu ‘anhuma)
Note: In some versions the highlighted words appear slightly different, as: tuhibbu Rabbuna wa tarda.
One may recite either of them.
And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
