Question

Is there any sunnah Du’a or deed for treating infertility?

Jazakallahu Khairan.

Answer

Children are a great blessing of Allah alone and are a responsibility too.

Allah Ta’ala in his infinite wisdom decides who He blesses with this responsibility.

In Surah Shura He says:

‘To Allah alone belongs the kingdom of the heavens and the earth. He creates whatever he wishes, He grants female offspring to whomsoever He wills, and males to whomsoever He wills. He grants some both; males and females, and He makes whoever he wishes barren. Indeed he is all Knowing, most Powerful.’

(Surah: Shura, verse: 49-50)

I haven’t seen any Hadith on this. However There are 2 examples in the Holy Quran wherein 2 Prophets (‘alayhimus Salam) didn’t have children, and after reciting their respective du’as, Allah Ta’ala granted it to them.

They are as follows:

Du’a of Nabi Ibrahim (‘Alayhis Salam)

Rabbi hab li minas salihin

(Surah Saffat, verse: 100)

Two Du’as of Nabi Zakariyya (‘alayhis Salam)

Rabbi hab li mil ladunka dhurriyyatan tayyibah, innaka sami’ud du’a

(Surah Ali ‘Imran, verse: 38)

Rabbi la tadharni fardaw wa anta khayrul warithin

(Surah Ambiya, verse: 89)

One should recite the above du’as as frequently as possible, especially at times of acceptance of du’as, like after each fard salah and other occasions.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best,
