Question
I read the following Hadith in a book on Tibb, however, the English translation of the last two words does not seem to be correct. Kindly provide the correct translation of the Hadith:
Sayyiduna ‘Ali (radiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: “Those who take 21 raisins daily will be free from all diseases which give rise to inferior complex” [Abu Nu’aym]
Answer
Imam Abu Nu’aym (rahimahullah) has recorded this narration as the statement of Sayyiduna ‘Ali (radiyallahu ‘anhu) and not as a Hadith of Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam).
The correct translation is as follows:
“Sayyiduna ‘Ali (radiyallahu ‘anhu) said: “Those who eat twenty one (21) red raisins daily will not see any [illness] that he dislikes on his body.”
(At Tibbun Nabawi: 813)
However, Allamah ‘Ajluni (rahimahullah) states, ‘The signs of fabrication are apparent.’
(Kashful Khafa, vol. 2 pg. 136)
The Hadith is therefore not suitable to quote.
And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
