Question

Is the following authentic?

Once when Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) asked Sayyidatuna Fatimah (radiyallahu ‘anha), “What is best for women?”

She spontaneously responded: “That no male sees her nor does she see any male.”

Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) was so elated with her apt response that he commented:

“Fatimah is a piece of my flesh.”

Answer

Sayyiduna ‘Ali (radiyallahu ’anhu) reports that once “Rasulullah (sallallahu ’alayhi wa sallam) asked the sahabah (radiyallahu ’anhum):

‘What is the best thing for a woman?’

They remained silent.

Sayyiduna ‘Ali (radiyallahu ’anhu) says: ‘When I went home I asked Fatimah (radiyallahu ’anha) about this.

She said:

‘[The best thing for a woman] is that she sees no man, and no man sees her.’
Sayyiduna ‘Ali (radiyallahu ’anhu) says: ‘I mentioned that to Rasulullah (sallallahu ’alayhi wa sallam) who said: ‘Fatimah is but a part of me.’”

(Musnad Bazzar, Hadith: 526, Hilyatul Awliya, Hadith: 1445 and Daraqutni in his Kitabul Afrad; see Kanzul ‘Ummal, Hadith: 46011)

The above Hadith is reported with various chains in the above references, which sufficiently corroborate each other.

One may quote this Hadith.
