Can this narration be quoted?

“Dryness of the eyes [being unable to cry] is due to excessive sinning, excessive sinning is due to lack of piety, lack of piety is due to hard hardheartedness and hardheartedness is due to love of the world”

Answer

Imam Daylami (rahimahullah) has recorded this narration on the authority of Sayyiduna Anas (radiyallahu ‘anhu). However ‘Allamah Suyuti (rahimahullah) has cited this narration in his book on fabricated narrations. The narration should therefore not be quoted.
