Jibril (‘alayhis salam) resembling Sayyiduna Dihyah (radiyallahu’anhu)

Question

Please provide a reference for what is famous that Jibril (‘alayhis salam) resembled Sayyiduna Dihyah (radiyallahu’anhu)

Answer

Sayyiduna Jabir (radiyallahu’anhu) reports that that Nabi (sallallahu’alayhi wasallam) said -as part of a lengthy Hadith: ‘..I saw Jibril, and the one who resembles him the most is Dihyah.’

(Sahih Muslim, Hadith: 422).

See more narrations on this in Isabah of Hafiz Hajar (rahimahullah), number: 2390.

Sayiduna Dihyah (radiyallahu’anhu) was an extremely handsome person.

Note: Although the above narration confirms your question, it should be noted that Jibril (‘alayhis salam) did -sometimes- appear in the form of a stranger, as was the case in the famous Hadith of Jibril.
