Kindly provide a reference for this Hadith?

عن أبي العالية، قال: قال ابن عباس: قال لي رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم غداة العقبة وهو على راحلته: «هات، القط لي» فلقطت له حصيات هن حصى الخذف، فلما وضعتهن في يده، قال: «بأمثال هؤلاء، وإياكم والغلو في الدين، فإنما أهلك من كان قبلكم الغلو في الدين»

 

Answer

Imam Nasai (rahimahullah) has recorded this version of the Hadith.

Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Abbas (radiyallahu ‘anhuma) reported: “On the 10th of Dhul Hijjah, while Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) was mounted on his camel, he told me “Pick up some pebbles for me.” I picked up seven [small] pebbles, similar in size to those used in a slingshot. When I placed them in his hands, he said, “Pelting should be done with pebbles like these. Beware of excessiveness, for those before you were ruined due to extremism in religion.”
