Question

The number of hurs (seventy or more) in Jannat for a shahid or a jannati is fixed by which Hadith and in which book?

Answer

The mention of seventy or more hurs by Rasulullah (sallallahu’alaihi wasallam) for the shahid is reported by many Sahabah (radiyallahu’anhum).

The following are two authentic narrations:

1. Sayyiduna Miqdad ibn Ma’dikarib (radiyallahu’anhu) reported that Rasulullah (sallallahu’alaihi wasallam) said:

“The shahid receives six favors from Allah Ta’ala… (the fifth being) he will be granted seventy two wives from the Hurul ‘In.”

(Sunan Tirmidhi, Hadith: 1663)

Imam Tirmidhi has classified this Hadith as sahih-authentic.

2. Sayyiduna ‘Ubadah ibn Samit (radiyallahu’anhu) has reported a similar narration (Hadith) recorded by Imam Ahmad in his Musnad (Hadith 17117), Imam al-Bazzar in his Musnad and Imam Tabarani in Al-Mu’jam al-Kabir. (Majma’uz-Zawa’id, vol.5 pg.293).

Hafiz al-Haythami (rahimahullah) has mentioned that the narrators of Musnad Ahmad and al-Tabarani are all reliable. (ibid)

Hafiz al-Mundhiri (rahimahullah) has classified the chain of narrators of Musnad Ahmad as hasan-sound. (At-Targhib, vol.2 pg.320).

Also refer to Fathul Bari, Hadith: 3246 & Al-Budurus Safirah of Allamah Suyuti (rahimahullah).

See here for an acceptable narration that promises seventy Hurs for even the ordinary inhabitants of Jannah.
