Sa’id ibnul Masayyab (rahimahullah) explains an etiquette of the Masjid

Question

What is the source of this narration?

Sa’id ibnul Musayyab (rahimahullah) said:

“One who is seated in the Masjid, is actually seated in the company of Allah Ta’ala.”

Answer

This statement of Sa’id ibnul Musayyab (rahimahullah) is recorded in Kitabuz Zuhd of Imam ‘Abdullah ibn Al Mubarak (rahimahullah).

(Kitabuz Zuhd: 416)

Muhammad ibn Muslim (rahimahullah), the teacher of Imam ‘Abdullah ibn Al Mubarak (rahimahullah) added, “So it is only right that he speaks good” [In the Masjid].

The narration is suitable to quote.

Note: Some versions of this narration have the word ‘Majlis’ in place of ‘Masjid’ which would then mean, ‘One who is seated in a gathering [of knowledge/good], is actually seated in the company of Allah Ta’ala.’

(Kitabuz Zuhd: 416)
