Question

Is this correct?

“Surah Falaq protects one from calamities.”

Answer

I have not come across these exact words in a Hadith.

The following Hadith may be quoted instead which explains that Surah Falaq and Surah Nas should be recited as a means of protecting oneself from calamities and for seeking refuge:

Sayyiduna ‘Uqbah ibn ‘Amir (radiyallahu ‘anhu) reports:

“While I was travelling with Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) between Juhfah and Abwa, a strong wind and intense darkness enveloped us. Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) began to seek refuge by reciting Surah Falaq and Surah Nas. He then said, ‘Uqbah, seek refuge through these two Surahs for none can seek refuge [with anything better] than these two Surahs…”

(Sunan Abi Dawud, Hadith: 1458. Refer: Sharh Ibn Raslan, Hadith: 1463)
