Is this story true?

Shaykh ‘Abdullah Al-Andalusi, the teacher of Junayd Baghdadi and Shibli was a well-known scholar and Muhaddith. Twelve thousand disciples sat at his feet. He knew thirty thousand (30 000) Hadiths by heart, and could recite the Quran in all the various modes of Qira’ah. But he fell in love with a non Muslim and forgot everything due to him looking down on the disbelievers and thinking that he was better than them. Allah Ta’ala granted him Iman again before he passed away.

Shaykh Shihabud Din, Abul Fath Al Abshihi (rahimahullah), a scholar of the ninth century has recorded this incident in his famous book, Al Mustatraf Fi Kulli Fannim Mustazraf without a chain of narrators.

(Al Mustatraf, pg. 165)
