What is the status of the following Hadith?

المعدة حوض البدن، والعروق إليها واردة، فإذا صحت المعدة، صدرت العروق بالصحة، وإذا فسدت المعدة، صدرت العروق بالسقم

Answer

Imams Tabarani and Bayhaqi (rahimahumallah) have recorded this Hadith.

(Al Mu’jamul Awsat, Hadith: 4340, Shu’abul Iman, Hadith: 5414)

However, Imams ‘Uqayli and Daraqutni (rahimahumallah) have dismissed the authenticity of this Hadith. ‘Allamah Dhahabi (rahimahullah) has also declared the text of the Hadith unreliable (munkar).

This is actually the statement of ‘Abdul Malik ibn Sa’id or his father Sa’id ibn Hayyan ibn Abjaz.

Translation

The belly is [like] the pond of the body and the veins all lead to it. If the stomach is healthy, the veins will also be healthy but if the stomach is unhealthy, the veins will also be unhealthy.
