Answer

This narration is recorded in Kitabul Ikhwan of Imam Abu Bakr ibn Abid Dunya, Al Mu’jamul Kabir of Imam Tabarani and Tarikh Dimashq with variations in the wording.

(Kitabul Ikhwan, Hadith: 122, Al Mu’jamul Kabir, Hadith: 68 vol. 22, Tarikh Dimashq, vol. 4 pg. 47. Also see: Al Khasaisul Kubra of ‘Allamah Suyuti, vol. 2 pg. 146)

The following version is recorded in Al Mu’jamul Kabir:

Sayyiduna Wail ibn Hujr (radiyallahu ‘anhu) said: “I would shake the hand of Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) or my skin would touch his skin and feel his perspiration in my hands, the scent would be better than musk after three days.”

(Al Mu’jamul Kabir, Hadith: 68 vol. 22)
