Question

Can you please provide particulars regarding the narrator Qays ibn Talq ibn ‘Ali?

Answer

Qays ibn Talq ibn ‘Ali ibnul Mundhir Al Hanafi Al Yamami was a Tabi’i. Hafiz Ibn Hajar Al ‘Asqalani (rahimahullah) states that some have incorrectly regarded him to be a Sahabi. His father, Talq ibn ‘Ali (radiyallahu ‘anhu) was a Sahabi.

Imams Yahya ibn Ma’in, ‘Ijli and Ibn Hibban (rahimahumullah) have declared him reliable (thiqah). Some Muhaddithun have declared him slightly weak. His Hadiths could therefore be declared sound (hasan) unless proven otherwise.

Imams Tirmidhi and Ibnul Qattan (rahimahumallah) have graded his Hadith sound (hasan). Hafiz Ibn Hajar (rahimahullah) has also graded him saduq (i.e. hasan) in his Taqribut Tahdhib.
