Question

Is this narration authentic?

فقراؤكم حسناتكم

The poor are [a means] of your good deeds

Answer

‘Allamah Ibn Taymiyyah (rahimahullah) has stated, ‘These words have not been reported as a Hadith of Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam), However, the meaning is correct. Since the poor are deserving of kindness/charity, a person attains reward by giving them charity, thus earning reward and good deeds.’

(Ahadithul Qussas, Hadith: 21)

Note: Although the meaning is correct, it is not suitable to quote the words in question as a Hadith of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam).

Despite this, one may indeed believe in this virtue and encourage others to the same.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
