Question
Is this Hadith authentic?
“Whomsoever wishes that Allah saves him from the difficulties of the day of Qiyamah, should grant respite to his debtor or waive off the debt”
Answer
Imam Muslim (rahimahullah) has recorded this narration on the authority of Sayyiduna Abu Qatadah (radiyallahu ‘anhu) in his Sahih. The narration is therefore authentic.
The full Hadith is as follows:
Abu Qatadah (radiyallahu ‘anhu) once demanded payment from his debtor who then disappeared. Abu Qatadah (radiyallahu ‘anhu) located him and [the debtor] said:
‘I am unable to pay.’ After taking an oath from him that he is unable to pay, Sayyiduna Abu Qatadah (radiyallahu ‘anhu) said, I heard Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) say:
“Whomsoever wishes that Allah save him from the torments of the Day of Qiyamah should grant respite to the insolvent or waive off the debt”
(Sahih Muslim, Hadith: 1563)
And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
