What is the authenticity of the following narration?

العلماء أمناء الله على خلقه

 

Answer

This Hadith is recorded in Mu’jam ibnul A’rabi and Musnadush Shihab on the authority of Sayyiduna Anas ibn Malik (radiyallahu ‘anhu).

Sayyiduna Anas ibn Malik (radiyallahu ‘anhu) reported that Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: “The scholars are the trustees of Allah over His creation.”

(Mu’jam ibnul A’rabi, Hadith: 587 and Musnadush Shihab, Hadith: 115)

‘Allamah Munawi (rahimahullah) has declared the chain sound (hasan) and explains that the scholars are the trustees of Allah over His creation because they safeguard the Shari’ah from the distortions of those who seek to corrupt it and from the misinterpretations of the ignorant, thus, it is obligatory to refer back to them.

(العلماء أمناء الله على خلقه) لحفظهم الشريعة من تحريف المبطلين وتأويل الجاهلين فيجب الرجوع إليهم (القضاعي وابن عساكر عن أنس) وإسناده حسن.
