Is this Hadith authentic and could you cite the full Hadith?

“The world is sweet, green and alluring. Indeed, Allah is making you succeed each other…”

 

Answer

Imam Muslim (rahimahullah) has recorded this Hadith in his Sahih. The Hadith is therefore authentic.

Sayyiduna Abu Sa’id Al Khudri (radiyallahu ‘anhu) reported that Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: “The world is certainly sweet and lush/green [i.e., alluring]. Allah is making you succeed each other in order to see how you act. Beware of the world and beware of women [i.e., Protect yourselves against the trials of this world and women]. The first trial for the Banu Israil was regarding women.”

(Sahih Muslim, Hadith: 2742)

(٢٧٤٢) – حدثنا محمد بن المثنى، ومحمد بن بشار، قالا: حدثنا محمد بن جعفر، حدثنا شعبة، عن أبي مسلمة، قال: سمعت أبا نضرة، يحدث عن أبي سعيد الخدري، عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم، قال: «إن الدنيا حلوة خضرة، وإن الله مستخلفكم فيها، فينظر كيف تعملون، فاتقوا الدنيا واتقوا النساء، فإن أول فتنة بني إسرائيل كانت في النساء» وفي حديث ابن بشار: «لينظر كيف تعملون».
