Question

Is the following or similar found in Hadith?

ظنوا بالمؤمنين خيرا

Think good of the Believers

Answer

I have not come across these exact words in a Hadith.

However, There are Verses of the Holy Quran and authentic Hadiths which discourage and prohibit suspicion [Which in turn would mean entertaining good thoughts]:

1) Allah Ta’ala says: “O you who have Iman! Refrain from excessive suspicion/assumption, for in some cases suspicion is a sin…”

(Surah Al Hujurat, Verse: 12. Also see: Surah Nur, Verse: 18)

2) Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: “Avoid suspicion for suspicion is the greatest lie…”

(Sahih Bukhari, Hadith: 5143, Sahih Muslim, Hadith: 2563)

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
