Question

Is this Hadith authentic?

Sayyiduna ‘Uthman (radiyallahu ‘anhu) narrates that Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: “On the Day of Qiyamah three types of people will intercede; The Ambiya will be the first to intercede [on behalf of the sinners], then the scholars and then the martyrs.”

Answer

Imam Ibn Majah (rahimahullah) has recorded this Hadith with an extremely weak chain.

(Sunan Ibn Majah, Hadith: 4313. Refer: Mizanul I’tidal, vol. 3 pg. 303, number: 6157. Also see: Al Mughni ‘An Hamlil Asfar, Hadith: 24, Zawaid Ibn Majah, Hadith: 1467 and Faydul Qadir, Hadith: 10011)

Imam Muslim (rahimahullah) has recorded the following Hadith which proves that the angels, Ambiya and Believers will intercede on the Day of Qiyamah:

[In the Hereafter] Allah Ta’ala will say, ‘The angels have interceded, the Ambiya have interceded and the Believers have interceded and none remains except the Most Merciful of those who show mercy. Allah Ta’ala will then remove a group from Jahannam who had never carried out any good deed…”

(Sahih Muslim, Hadith: 183. Refer: Al Mughni ‘An Hamlil Asfar, Hadith: 225)

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
