Shaykh Abdul Qadir Jilani (rahimahullah) has mentioned the following Hadith in his book Al-Ghunyah

“Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim was the first verse to be revealed upon Adam ‘alayhis salam and the ummah will be protected from punishment as long as they read it”

Answer

The Hadith appears in the source you have provided without a chain of narrators. I have not come across a chain of narrators and I am therefore unable to comment on the authenticity.

The Hadith should not be quoted until it can be verified.

وعن سالم بن أبي الجعد أن عليًا -رضي الله عنه- قال: «لما أنزلت {بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم} قال رسول الله -صلى الله عليه وسلم-: أول ما أنزلت هذه الآية على آدم، فقال: أمن ذريتي من العذاب ما داموا على قراءتها، ثم رفعت فأنزلت على إبراهيم الخليل فتلاها وهو في كفة المنجنيق فجعل الله عليه النار بردًا وسلامًا، ثم رفعت بعده، فما أنزلت إلا على سليمان وعندها قالت له الملائكة: الآن تم والله ملكك، ثم رفعت فأنزلها الله -عز وجل- علي، ثم تأتي أمتي يوم القيامة وهم يقولون: {بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم}، فإذا وضعت أعمالهم في الميزان رجحت حسناتهم، قال رسول الله -صلى الله عليه وسلم-: اكتبوها في كتبكم فإذا كتبتموها فتكلموا بها».
