What is the consequence of degrading the husband in the presence of his children/ family and outsiders.

 

Answer

Respecting the husband is essential in Islam.

The Hadiths on this topic are numerous and very stern.

Consider the following:

1. Sayyidatuna ‘Aishah (radiyallahu ‘anha) reports that she asked Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam):

‘Who has the greatest right upon a woman?’

Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) replied: ‘Her husband.’

(Musnad Bazzar and Mustadrak Hakim, vol. 4, pg. 150)

Declared sound (hasan) by ‘Allamah Mundhiri

(Targhib, vol. 3, pg. 53)

2. Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Amr (radiyallahu ‘anhuma) reported that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:

“Allah does not look [with mercy] to a woman who is ungrateful to her husband, especially since she is not independent of him.”
