Is the Hadith which states doing siwak before salah is 70 times better than salah done without doing siwak authentic?
Answer
Yes, it is.
1. Sayyiduna Jabir (radiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:
“Two rak’ats offered after using the miswak is better than 70 rak’ats without it.”
(Abu Nu’aym in Kitabus siwak; see Targhib, vol. 1, pg. 168)
‘Allamah Mundhiri (rahimahullah) has declared the chain as sound (hasan).
2. Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Abbas (radiyallahu ‘anhuma) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:
“To offer 2 rak’ats after using the miswak is more beloved to me than offering 70 rak’ats without using the miswak.”
(Abu Nu’aym in Kitabus siwak; see Targhib, vol. 1, pg. 168)
‘Allamah Mundhiri (rahimahullah) has declared the chain as good (jayyid).
3. Sayyidatuna ‘Aishah (radiyallahu ‘anha) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:
“The reward for offering 2 rak’ats of salah after using the miswak is 70 times more than doing so without using the miswak.”
(Musnad Ahmad, vol. 6, pg. 272 & Musnad Bazzar; Majma’uz zawaid, vol. 2, pg. 98)
‘Allamah Haythami (rahimahullah) says the narrators of Bazzar are deemed reliable (muwath-thaqun). Also see Targhib, vol. 1, pg. 167.
