Beneficial Knowledge Guides a Person to Allah

Question

What is the source of the following statement? Is it a Hadith?

“There is no way to know Allah, nor to attain His pleasure, nor to achieve closeness to him in the Hereafter except through beneficial knowledge.”

Answer

This is not a Hadith of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam). Rather, it is the statement of Hafiz Ibn Rajab Al Hambali (rahimahullah).

While explaining the Hadith regarding the virtue of seeking knowledge, Hafiz Ibn Rajab (rahimahullah) writes:

“Indeed, knowledge guides a person to Allah through one of the shortest paths. Whoever follows the path of knowledge and does not turn away from it will reach Allah Ta’ala and Jannah by one of the shortest and easiest routes. All the paths leading to Jannah, both in this world and the Hereafter, will then become easy for him.
There is no way to recognise Allah Ta’ala, attain His pleasure, gain closeness to Him and be near Him in the Hereafter except through beneficial knowledge with which Allah Ta’ala sent His Messengers and revealed His Books. It is this knowledge that guides a person to Allah Ta’ala.”

(Jami’ul ‘Ulumi wal Hikam, vol. 2, pg. 190, under Hadith: 36)

And Allah Ta’ala knows best.
