Question

When Imam Muslim in his muqaddimah says to the opposition that they are “Muntahil Al-Hadith” who does he mean by this?

Some scholars mention Imam Bukhari and ‘Ali ibnul Madini. However, some contemporaries say that it is neither of them.

Answer

In the view of my beloved teacher, Al-Muhaddith Shaykh Muhammad ‘Awwamah (hafizahullah), Imam Muslim (rahimahullah) was not referring to either of them two.

(Footnotes on Tadribur Rawi, vol. 3, pg. 203 and 210)

The name of this person is unknown. The reason for this is that this person was not a proper scholar of Hadith, as Imam Muslim (rahimahullah) pointed out.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best,
