Question

Kindly verify the following statement and to whom it is attributed?

“Every person will be buried in the soil from which he was created”

Answer

Imam ‘Abdur Razzaq (rahimahullah) has recorded this narration as the statement of Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Abbas (radiyallahu ‘anhuma). However, the nature of this narration is not such that he could have made using logic. It will therefore be understood that he heard this from Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam).

Imam Hakim and Imam Bayhaqi have recorded a Hadith which has a similar meaning.

Sayyiduna Abu Sa’id Al Khudri (radiyallahu ‘anhu) says, “Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) passed by a funeral procession near a grave and asked: ‘Whose grave is this?’ They replied: ‘It is the grave of so and so from Abyssinia. Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) then said: ‘La ilaha illallah [There is no Deity except Allah], he was driven away from his land and sky [i.e., from his hometown] to the soil from which he was created”
