Question

Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (radiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:

“Indeed Allah Ta’ala tests his servant through sickness until that sickness wipes out all his sins”

Answer

Imam Hakim (rahimahullah) has recorded this narration. He has declared the Hadith authentic and ‘Allamah Dhahabi concurs.

حدثني بكير بن محمد الصيرفي، بمكة، حدثنا أبو مسلم إبراهيم بن عبد الله، حدثنا علي بن المديني، حدثنا أبو بكر الحنفي، حدثنا عاصم بن محمد بن زيد، عن سعيد بن أبي سعيد المقبري، عن أبيه، عن أبي هريرة، قال: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: «قال الله تعالى: إذا ابتليت عبدي المؤمن، ولم يشكني إلى عواده أطلقته من أساري، ثم أبدلته لحما خيرا من لحمه، ودما خيرا من دمه، ثم يستأنف العمل».
هذا حديث صحيح على شرط الشيخين، ولم يخرجاه.
