Question

Please advise what Hadith and what du’a is this?

Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:

“When any one of you completes the last tashahhud, he should seek refuge with Allah from four (trials) i.e. from the torment of Hell, from the torment of the grave, from the trial of life and death, and from the mischief of Dajjal (Antichrist).”

Answer

Imam Muslim (rahimahullah) has recorded this Hadith on the authority of Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (radiyallahu ‘anhu).

Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (radiyallahu ‘anhu) said that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: “When of you completes the final tashahhud then he should seek Allah’s protection against four things; The punishment of Jahannam, the torment of the grave, the trial of life and death and from the evil of Dajjal.”

Other versions of the same Hadith recorded in Sahih Muslim have worded the du’a as follows:

اللّٰهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ عَذَابِ جَهَنَّمَ، وَمِنْ عَذَابِ الْقَبْرِ، وَمِنْ فِتْنَةِ المَحْيَا وَالْمَمَاتِ، وَمِنْ شَرِّ فِتْنَةِ الْمَسِيحِ الدَّجَّالِ

Allahumma inni a’udhu bika min ‘adhabi Jahannam wa min ‘adhabil qabri wa min fitnatil mahya wal mamati wa min sharri fitnatil masihid dajjal

(Sahih Muslim, Hadith: 588)

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
