Question
I wanted to know if the follow du’a being a means of protection from leprosy, blindness and paralysis is established from any authentic Hadith?
سبحان الله العظيم وبحمده ولا حول ولا قوة الا بالله
Answer
1) Imam Ahmad (rahimahullah) has recorded a narration which states that Sayyiduna Qabisah ibn Al Mukhariq (radiyallahu ‘anhu) had expressed some of his concerns to Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) who then offered him some advices. Among them was the following:
“…O Qabisah, After you have offered Fajr Salah, say ‘Subhanallahil adhimi wa bihamdihi’ you will be protected from blindness, leprosy and paralysis…”
(Musnad Ahmad, vol. 5 pg. 60)
This Hadith has been transmitted with a weak chain. Refer: Majma’uz Zawaid, vol. 1 pg. 132. Also see Nataijul Afkar, vol. 2 pg. 337)
2) Imam Ibnus Sunni (rahimahullah) and Imam Tabarani (rahimahumallah) have also recorded a similar narration with a weak chain. This version has some extra words:
“….After you have offered Fajr Salah, say ‘Subhanallahil adhimi wa bihamdihi la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah’ thrice, Allah will protect you from four calamities; leprosy. insanity, blindness and paralysis”
(‘Amalul Yawmi Wal Laylah, Hadith: 134 and Al Mu’jamul Kabir, Hadith: 940, volume: 18. Refer: Majma’uz Zawaid, vol. 10 pg. 111 and Lisanul Mizan. vol. 8 pg. 249. Also see: ‘Amalul Yawmi Wal Laylah, Hadith: 135)
Summary
The combination of these chains although weak, make the du’a suitable for practice.
And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
